A Tail of Forklure 05 October to 30 November 2014

For 2014, The Fringe Files showcased brand new fantasy adventure spoof A Tail of Forklure, written by British playwright Michael Starr and directed by Stuart Lyddon.

THE PLOT

Bygone friends Danny, Colin and Jack arrive at a private house party having been summoned by mutual pal Gus, but this is no ordinary party. Gus has a master plan, a plan fueled by an overwhelming desire for greatness. Unexpectedly, our three guests are strategically plunged into a chaotic role playing tale of fantasy and adventure, where they must face looming danger at every roll of the dice. Will our make shift heroes complete their mission, or is there more to this game than meets the eye?

THE TIMETABLE

Rehearsals took place at The Bear Hotel, Wincanton and The Nog Inn, Wincanton (July to September, 2014). Performance venues included The Bear Hotel, Wincanton (October 5th, 2014), The Place, Taunton (October 10th, 2014), The Underground Theatre, Eastbourne (October 19th, 2014), The Spelthorne & Runnymede Drama Festival (October 25th, 2014), Shaftesbury Arts Centre (November 8th, 2014) & Terry Pratchett's Hogswatch 2014 (November 30, 2014)

PRODUCTION NOTES

For this production, The Fringe Files welcomed Chantal Bargery and Yasmin Alam for the first time as a performer and costume designer respectively. This was the first production which demanded customised costumes. Ian Tapner, Gordon Watson, Quintin Mitchell and Stuart Lyddon all returned in familiar roles alongside seasonal regulars Rozy Watson, Adam Holland and Andrew Meadows. Founder and patron Michael Starr and graphic illustrator Jeff Haas completed the line-up.

AWARDS / NOMINATIONS

This production received four award nominations, winning two. These were for “Best comedy” (nominated), “The adjudicators choice” for Quintin Mitchell's performance as Gus (won), “Best female actress” for Chantal Bargery's performance as L'Theena (nominated) & “Best new play” (won).
